Reading Rocks!
This week officially kicks off our Reading Rocks theme for AR! We'll have an assembly on Monday, where Mrs. Quick will explain monthly AR incentives, as well as the end-of-the-year extravaganza! This information was sent home to parents last week. Students may dress up Tues.-Thurs. as we celebrate the following themes:
Tuesday: 50's Day (Reading theme: Fiction)
Wednesday: 60's/70's Day (Reading theme: Nonfiction)
Thursday: 80's Day (Reading theme: Informational literature/media)
Friday: Dress Like Your Favorite Rockstar (Reading theme: Poetry)
We're ready for a ROCKIN' great week!

Week 6!
I hope everyone had a fantastic Labor Day weekend! This week, we'll be finishing and reviewing fractions in math class. Students will have a study guide to look over on Thursday and we'll have a test on Friday. Ask your child to sing "Simplifying Fractions" to the tune of "We Will Rock You" or to 'break it down' when they sing about simplest form!!
Spelling contracts are due each Friday. Please sign your child's contract when all 3 assignments have been completed.
We'll be kicking off AR with Reading Rocks--The Sequel! next week. Letters will go home on Wednesday detailing our theme days and themed activities to promote literacy in the classrooms each day. We are encouraging students to create costumes using their own clothes, instead of purchasing new outfits. We're excited and we'll have a ROCKIN' GOOD TIME!
AR Info: Students will be eligible for a monthly prize...all they have to do is read, read, read! At the end of each month, the top AR points in each grade level (for that month ONLY) will receive school-store-bucks as well as a free book and possibly some other goodies! The students will also need to have an 85% average or higher to be eligible. At the end of the year, the top students per grade level (overall points and an 85% average or higher) will give their teachers a "Rock Star Makeover"! They'll get makeup, hairstyling products, etc. to give their teachers (and administrators) a true Rock Star image! Please encourage your 5th grader to read for 15-20 minutes each night and try to take at least 2 AR tests each week!
