Thank you to all who participated and helped to make last week so successful! AR is now officially "kicked-off", and we are encouraging each 5th grader to set a goal for AR points and number of books read. GA Standards require that each student in 5th grade reads a total of 25 books this year (approx. 1,000,000 words). This means that each student should strive to read at least 6-7 books per 9 weeks, at his/her appropriate level. Our AR reward will be this Friday, recognizing students who have reached the first 9 week goal of 8 points. Our goal for the next marking period will be higher and I will post this information next week!
Also...be on the lookout for reading response questions listed on my blog! Students will be required to answer one question each week during computer lab or at home, if they have access to a computer.
Conferences begin at the end of this week. Please look for letters from your child's homeroom teacher to set up a meeting and discuss progress or any areas of concern.
October 7th will be our PTO/Open House at 6PM...please join us!!!

Reminders!
**Keep sending those pop-can tabs for our 4H community service project: The Ronald McDonald House!! Our class is working hard to become Club of the Month!**
**We're excited for the upcoming reading events this month! Please read the letter sent home in Tuesday folders about "Reading Rocks" week, Sept. 20th-24th! There is a different activity or theme for each day of the week, with a kickoff assembly on Friday the 24th! Students may dress up to celebrate the daily themes and we ask that they are dressed appropriately, according to school dress code. **
**New packets are due September 24th. Please make sure your child is completing all 5 assignments before turning in the packet; this is counted as a test grade and the packets will not be accepted after the due date.**
**Please remember to sign Tuesday folders each week after reviewing your child's test grades.**
**A weekly behavior sheet will come home in folders each Tuesday, starting next week, showing students' daily behavior. These will need to be signed and returned each week.**
Thank you for your continuing support of our 5th grade team!
